Leaving Idaho and Anacortes WA – 2022

When we left Idaho, we spent a few days on a pass just over the border in Montana. This was the start of a trend for us, escaping the heat! We found a nice spot tucked away in the woods on a forest road near Lost Trail Pass and camped for free for 3 nights. We didn’t really take any pictures, but had a few nice walks on the CDT (continental divide trail) and just relaxed. It was lovely!

After leaving our nice, cool spot on the pass we dropped down through Montana and made it to Coeur d’Alene on our way further west. We stayed for a night a Kootenai County Fairgrounds RV Park, and it was pretty nice for a quick stop-over. We ended up finding some burgers and a huckleberry shake – if you ever head through there check out Roger’s Burgers!

After leaving Coeur d’Alene, we were supposed to spend a lovely week in North Cascades National Park. Unfortunately, a heat wave was hitting the area and temps were in the high 90’s/100’s so we had to change plans. We ended up getting a nice spot in Anacortes, WA at Pioneer Trail RV Park. It wasn’t really our style, but it worked out great. The area was fantastic!

While on the island, we did multiple hikes in Deception Pass State Park. It was wild how the west side of the park would be cool – low to mid 60’s during the day, but on the east side it was well into the 80’s. Beautiful!

We also did a little mountain bike ride which was fantastic. We didn’t know there were trails on the island, but one of our retired rv park neighbors showed us around for a little ride. It was a good time!

There was another campground on the northern tip of the island that we might try to stay at next time we are in the area, Washington Park. It’s a city park, so definitely a little more budget-friendly – but still had electric hookups. Probably not needed for temperatures, but there was a lot of tree cover so not great for solar. We did a little hike around there one morning too.

Anacortes ended up being a very pleasant surprise – we will definitely come back to the area! After our time there, we headed north to Bellingham. We’ll cover that in our next post!
