After our week at Olympic National Park, we made our way down to Oregon – we stayed for 11 days at Trillium Lake Campground just south of Mt. Hood. The campground was very beautiful, tucked in the woods next to a lake.

As with most of our location choices, this place had plenty of great mountain bike trails nearby. The first we went for was a shuttle ride called ‘Timberline to Rhododendron.’ It was unique because we could ride a $2 shuttle from the town of Rhododendron up over 4,000′ in elevation for a total ~16mi of riding. It was a lot of fun!

Another beautiful ride we did was at Sandy Ridge, which is between Mt. Hood and Portland. This trail system is pretty spectacular, with built berms and jumps – unfortunately, we rode it separately so didn’t get much in the way of imagery other than this shot by Andrea.

Another ride we did was in Hood River at a trail system called ‘Post Canyon’. This was another spectacular trail system, with the highlight being ‘Bad Motor Scooter’ up near the top. It had tons of jumps and huge berms! Smiles for days.

After a few days in the area, I (Kyle) got the chance to fly back to MO to see some family – my brother’s second son, Beck, had been born about a month before. This was my first chance to meet him and spend some time with the rest of the Helmig family. Unfortunately we didn’t get any pics with Beck, but here’s a bunch with Graham – he demanded a lot more attention from Uncle Kyle than newborn Beck!

Unfortunately, Andrea had to stay behind to keep an eye on the camper and Mozzie, but she had some fun rides and hikes. Here’s a couple of those shots plus a shot from a small hike we did with Moz together earlier in the week.

Trillium Lake Campground was a lot of fun, but after 11 days we were ready to move on. Next up, we head over to the coast of Oregon.
