Breckenridge – 2022

After our adventures in the Black Hills of South Dakota, we headed down to our old stomping grounds – Summit County. We stayed at Heaton Bay campground, right on the shore of Dillon Reservoir – a beautiful campground that has a great location. We booked two weeks at site 69, which was perfectly sized for us. We had an older couple walking by when we pulled up, they made a snide remark about us fitting in the site – nailed it in one try. 🙂

During our two week stay, we focused mostly on seeing friends from Denver and mountain biking. Thanks to Logan/Kayla, Dominic, and Jen/Mark/Ian for spending time with us! I also was able to pop in to see my foot doctor in Denver. He did an aspiration on my ganglion cyst – so far, it is doing well.

If I remember right, we went for 5 bike rides while we were in town. Mountain biking in Breckenridge is fantastic – I think if I had to pick a single place to bike for the rest of my life, it would be here. In fact, if we could afford it (hahaha), Breckenridge would probably be where we would eventually buy a house. Aside from dreaming, here’s some pictures from our biking.

Apart from the many rides, Andrea also went on her first solo backpacking trip! She did a 14mi loop around Buffalo Mountain – a loop we did a few years ago. It’s super accessible, being right across the interstate from our campsite, and absolutely stunning but for some reason it’s never too crowded.

Her hike started out great, but the weather turned quickly in the late afternoon. Rain is very usual in the mountains, but on this hike it just kept coming. Typically, you’ll get pop-up thunderstorms in Colorado – afternoon rain for 30 minutes or so. Very much on off. This time it rained pretty solid for three hours. Andrea made the mistake of assuming it would end soon, so she didn’t set up the tent right away. Moz and Andrea got soaked!

But, as always, the rain did end. Andrea got Moz into the tent and they got warmed up. The next day was beautiful!

Our time in Breckenridge was fantastic! We had a great time in camp, around town and on the trails. Here are few more pictures from random hikes or around camp.

It’s not goodbye for Breckenridge, but see you later!
